I have been working on this diorama that shows some of the past and current resources in British Columbia. The river is important because they are used for gold panning and routes for trading, as well fishing. The mountains are used for mineral sites and certain fur like bear. People all a round took camping territories (staked claims) as seen in this picture marked as: Barker, Jones, and Cameron , and the unmarked tent is on Cameron's territory just so you know. This is made mostly out of paper mache and wax and the rest is made out of styrofoam and paint, pebbles and fir branches. I may still add more trees and a railway track to show the building of the Canadian Pacific Railway.

Animal shelters are dealing with a huge problem. There are too many pets, and too little homes for them.
Over 176,185 cats were admitted in Canada 1993 to SPCA's, and 60% of those cats killed. And over dogs 102,132 are admitted in 1993 Canada and 30% were killed. Just like the cats just a different species. People drop off pets at animal shelters because: lost pets, death of owner, moving, divorce, and allergies. Shelters should be the last choice for options, try at least three other options before shelters. Try training your pet, or finding a loving home if you have to. Overpopulation is the biggest problem. Theoretically a female cat and her offspring can produce 420,000 cats in 7 years. Always keep your pets until they die, and remember to get your pet fixed. The reason pets get killed in shelters is because there is not enough room for all of them (if you didn't know), or sometimes the animal is too sick. Things are getting a little better, in 2008 the number dropped with admissions and killing of pets to about 120,952 were admitted and approximately 36.5% killed. (84,301 cats and 54% put down & 36,651 dogs and 19% put down). Pet tips: -fix your pets -if you have a cat don't let it wander off -adopt instead of buy In October, I went to a vineyard owned by family friends, the Cerqueira family. We learned all about grapes like: Semillon, Shiraz, Chardonnay, and Merlot. Their orchard is 15 acres, and about 80 rows.I even shot a flare (my favourite part). They have so many different rooms in their house. In this picture I'm in one of their cellars. We went inside for about an hour and a half, I had portuguese coffee after lunch. They have chickens too. Behind their chicken coop is their shed (it has so many different tools etc.) After that I had a tractor ride and my mom was behind us on the golf cart. We then went to the Borrowing Owl winery. Luckily we got a VIP tour around Borrowing Owl. I also got to do a worker's job for bit. All thanks to the Cerqueira family. Sincerely, Cole Hentzelt |
